BUILDER AWARD
Integrity
Automotive and Arizona Portland Cement Company received the 2007 Community and
Business Builder of the year awards. The award recognizes two
companies, one with 25 or fewer employees and the other with 26 or
more employees. The award was presented March 20th at a special
ceremony at the Oasis at Wild Horse Ranch.
Integrity Automotive,
6621 N Thornydale, is a Marana business owned and operated by
Charlie and Julie Baxley and Don and Barb Meeker. The firm is
strongly involved in the Marana community and enthusiastically
devotes time and efforts to local charities and projects.
Co-owner Don Meeker has been actively involved with the Adopt A
School program in Marana High School and Mountain View High
School and is on the committee to help development of the
vocational training at the schools. Integrity Automotive
also sponsors a “Weekend backpack program” for Marana students.
Julie Baxley serves on the Special Events and Health & Safety
Committee in addition to working with the Town of Marana on the
Thornydale improvement project. Integrity Automotive is
also an active contributor to the Marana Food Bank and helps
publicize the organization.
Arizona Portland Cement Company,
11115 Casa Grande Hwy, started operations in 1949 with one
cement kiln. In 2008, the company operates 4 kilns and the
company quarry mines 5.5 million tons of limestone per year.
Arizona Portland Cement has sponsored such events as the
Chamber “Rock N’ Roll in the Quarry” mixer, a golf tournament
donating all proceeds to Miracle Inc and Marana Food Bank.
Arizona Portland Cement employees have actively supported
such organizations as Marana Middle School, Care Fair, Tiger
Band Boosters, YMCA, Humane Society, Special Olympics and
others. As a strong advocate of education and conservation,
Arizona Portland Cement provides numerous community
educational tours of the plant facilities. The company is proud
to be the recipient of the EPA EnergyStar of the Year Award for
3 years in a row.
